Miracle Hill (In Development)

An unsettling mosaic of community archive, testimony and experimental images from  the Southern Islands of the Outer Hebrides, Miracle Hill traces the quiet but persistent  expansion of military infrastructure in this strategic archipelago in the North Atlantic.

From the arrival of the rocket range in 1957 to the current construction of Spaceport  1, a space rocket launch site put forward as commercial, but with undeniable military  potential, Miracle Hill asks how an island culture shaped by oral tradition, collective  land use, and layered spirituality, contends with the encroachment of the global  defence economy.

Blurring past and present, this world and the remnants of the Gaelic otherworld,  Miracle Hill considers the complex entanglements of local identity and military  employment, folklore and policy, tradition and adaptation.
